My dog’s a little rambunctious, but I’m not sure he needs training. Shouldn’t I just respect his/her space?

As dog owners who see our pets as part of the family, it’s very easy for us to assume they react to certain situations in the way a human might. For example, if you touch your dog while he’s eating and he growls, you might think you should just leave him alone until he’s in a better mood. But if a dog shows signs of aggression at any point, it’s not a mood or a personality issue—it is a behavioral issue. This is the first sign your dog is beginning to see himself as the leader, and you, the owner, should always maintain that role.

I’ve seen how dogs establish themselves as leaders, and they’re mean. I don’t want to do that to my dog.

Dogs in the wild establish leadership by fighting and seeing who comes out on top. We at B-more Dog Training certainly don’t recommend that. We teach you how to put yourself in the leadership role by showing you how to effectively communicate with your dog through verbal commands and proper leash handling techniques. The result will be a relationship built on mutual trust and understanding, not on violence and fear.

What types of behavioral problems have you handled in the past?

We can handle any type of behavioral issue your dog comes up with. In the past, we’ve handled aggression, separation anxiety, jumping, leash pulling, house breaking, crate training, basic obedience training, chewing, and digging. But our vast knowledge of not only canine training techniques but also canine psychology and history gives us the unique benefit of being able to tailor training programs to fit the dog rather than just implement cookie cutter solutions to cookie cutter problems.

Are you certified?

Yes. All B-more Dog Training trainers have been fully certified to train any breed, from young puppies to mature dogs, through Canine Trade Group.

Is there a group training option?

For dogs aged sixteen weeks and up in need of basic obedience training, we offer a group course called Practical Pet Protocol. However, if your dog is suffering from any behavioral issue other than lack of basic obedience (or “selective hearing” as we like to call it), we recommend in-home training.

What’s so special about in-home training?

In-home training allows us to tailor a full training program to fit your dog’s needs. These will almost always include basic obedience training, but they will also focus on eradicating all other undesirable habits from your dog’s daily life.

Can we focus on just one behavioral issue?

Training a dog for one behavioral issue rather than for what is essentially a lifestyle change is asking for a relapse. You must establish yourself as your dog’s leader in every area or that foundation of respect will never truly be established. Your dog may act out in other ways or may simply continue the undesired behavior. Our training is based on fully educating your dog in what is expected of him and fully educating you in the correct way to handle your dog, every second of every day. If we start spot-checking your dog’s behavior, the training will never truly be complete.

I bet in-home training is really expensive?

You’d be surprised at just how affordable in-home training can be. At B-more Dog Training, we charge by the job, rather than by the session. This means that we give you the price of training your dog up front, you pay that fee, and that’s it until the training goals are met. If it takes weeks, the fee is the same. If it takes months, the fee is the same. This also negates the need for trainer hopping. Jumping from one trainer to the next can get really expensive.
